Resolution 1111 / NQ-UBTVQH14 of UBTVQH takes effect from 01/01/2021; Accordingly, the establishment of Thu Duc City or Eastern City was officially approved, on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of District 2, District 9 and Thu Duc District. After its establishment, Thu Duc City will be the City Type I, directly under HCM City, over 211 km2 of natural area and population scale of 1,013,795 people; adjacent to District 1, District 4, District 7, District 12, Binh Thanh District; Dong Nai province and Binh Duong province.

Objectives and Functions Of the City
The goal of establishing the City is to build an innovative, highly interactive urban area in the East of the city from taking current advantages of its gateway location and available service infrastructure such as university campuses, (high-level training), High-tech Park (advanced production), Thu Thiem new urban area (financial and business center).

In addition, this area already owns a framework technical infrastructure system such as Hanoi Highway, Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway, Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line, Pham Van Dong Street…
The establishment of this Eastern City will contribute to solving two strategic issues of Vietnam: creating a new growth wave based on innovation in the 4.0 era, and enhancing national security in anticipation of complicated developments in the region and in the world.
